Landlords & residents of Alagbaka Extension, Akure the Ondo State Capital are protesting what they called insensitivity & extortion by BEDC officials in the area.
They converged on the headquarters of the company in the state capital on Monday morning to emphasize what they alleged as extortion by the officials of what they described as controversial organisation and inefficient product of uncoordinated leadership.
They gathered at the main entrance of the establishment as early as 7.39am and prevented the officials from accessing the offices.
Their grouse was simply that BEDC led by Funke Osibodu had claimed that those who had bought pre-paid meters in the past must buy a new one as decided by the management they alleged had been bewildered by a degree of ineptitude.
The Residents who said most houses in the area had not been supplied for close to one year were given monthly bills of about 40,000 naira on a monthly basis in the name of estimated bills.
The protesters, mainly public servants, political leaders, captains of industry and senior citizens are of the opinion that the federal gpovernment should relieve BEDC of the responsibility with the claim that the leadership has shown that they are not capable to translate the vision of President Muhammad Buhari to reality in the power sector.
They expressed worries that despite the level of encouragement given to BEDC, the establishment has only been out to milk the people dry in contrary to the principles of the President of the country.
One of the residents, Mr Fred Ojo said most houses in the area had not been supplied for more than nine months while all efforts to get the understanding of BEDC officials HD not been successful.
Another inside source said embargo had been placed on any implementation of any controversial policy in the area as residents are prepared to resist what they call sabotage of the federal government policy in the power sector.
