A special security task force in Plateau State has paraded 25 persons suspected to have perpetrated in the state such violent crimes as armed robbery, gun running, and cultism.

 

Last month, no fewer than 12 persons were killed in several parts of Mangu Local Government Area of the state.

 

Some of the suspects paraded yesterday included those said to have taken part in the Mangu killings, while some are said to be “kidnappers and cultists”.

 

Parading the 25 suspects before reporters in Jos, commander of the task force, Major General Augustine Agundu said, “Our surveillanec team on a tip-off apprehended a notorious armed robbery kingpin called Ya’u Muhammed at Toro village in Bauchi State. The suspect was the leader of an armed robbery syndicate that attacked my troop at Kwanan-Fulani in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State which led to the death of one of our personnel in September 2019.

“Our troops in conjunction with special forces apprehended Mr Ishaku Pam, a suspected specialist in cow rustling within Barkin Ladi council. After a search in his house we recovered one AK 47 rifle, 181 rounds of 7.62mm special, 2 AK 47 magazines, a police jacket. He claimed he is was a retired policeman disengaged in 2003.

 

“In the same vein, our troops trailed and intercepted Mr John Ibe, aka Chemical, a notorious cultist on our wanted list. He was apprehended on his way from Onitsha to Jos. Some of his gang members are at large. We shall pick them up sooner or later.

“Other suspected cow rustlers, Isah Abdullahi, Usman Abdulkadir and Hassan Shuaibu were apprehended at Nkun village, Kerang district in Mangu Local Government Area where they went to rustle cows. They were overpowered by local security personnel.

 

“The special task force also arrested a kidnapper Jaafar Shuaibu in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State alongside a cash sum of N1.7 million as his share of ransom paid to them by families of their victims. Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect is a member of a kidnapping syndicate that has been carrying out kidnapping in Kaduna and Nasarawa states. We are still on the trail of other members of the kidnap syndicate.”

“A suspected Boko Haram member Umar Musa Tello from Damagun village of Yobe State, who appeared to be on the run due to military operation in Yobe State, was found loitering around in Zawuran village of Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, was also arrested.”

 

General Agundu assured citizens of the state of the task force’s commitment to protecting them.
