The Ondo State government has asked residents of the state to step up their personal hygiene and regularly use Hand Sanitizers to curtail the spread of Lassa Fever.

The state commissioner for health, Dr Wahad Adegbenro made the appeal in a chat with Orange fm on the Lassa Fever Update in Akure.

Recently the news of Lassa fever outbreak became a major issue for all and sundry in the nation’s health sector including Ondo state

To curtail the spread of the disease, Ondo state government quickly swung into action by putting in place necessary machineries to tackle the scourge.

Commenting on Lassa fever Update, the state commissioner for health , Dr Wahab Adegbenro was of the opinion that , residents of the state must now take their personal hygiene seriously.

He equally explained  that government would not relent in its determination to get rid of lassa fever in the state .

He also urged the people to present early at the government hospitals once they noticed some of the symptoms associated with the disease saying early presentation of the disease is sacrosanct in treatment of lassa fever patients.

According to him, treatment of lassa fever is free in Ondo state just as he maintained that, treatment of each patient cost over 1million naira saying government is solely responsible for the medical bills of any residents down with the disease in Ondo state.

As for the state epidemiologist, Dr  Stephen Fagbemi said surveillance and tracking of individuals infected with the Disease are ongoing just as he noted that the Isolated Infectious Disease Centre has been upgraded to tackle the scourge.

While emphasizing on the need for people to take precautions, a medical practitioner, Dr Wilson Ikubese said residents should be more careful with all cultural practices that could further fuel the spread of Disease stressing that all hands must be on deck to kick lassa Fever out of Ondo State.
